GSPlayer MIDI Player

GSPlayer is so far the best MIDI player for your PocketPC that we came across! Excellent sound quality, fast launch, and relatively compact (about half the size of PocketMIDI, but the sound is the same).

It allows you to play MIDI files (e.g. one exported from PocketSynth Pro, PocketDrums, or Midnote) directly on your handheld. The latest version of MidNote integrates this player to provide polyphonic playing of the full piece.

GSPlayer only works on devices with ARM, StrongARM and XScale processor, so if you have a PocketPC 2003 device you are fine (all of them use XScale), for older devices it depends on the processor.

GSPlayer was written by Y.Nagamidori in Japan and is available as Freeware. Unfortunately the original program is only in Japanese and comes as a pile of single files, making it pretty awkward to install for an inexperienced user.

Vladimir Andriyahin translated the program to English - available on his webpage, but still without an installer.

Because of that, we decided to create a fully automated installer for GSPlayer and provide it for free download:

To install GSPlayer, download the installer and launch it on your PC. Before you use it you must either launch MidNote once, choose GSPlayer as your preferred MIDI player (View -> Global Options) and play a file (File -> Play Full). Alternatively, copy the file \GSPlayer\timidity.cfg on your handheld into the root directory ("\") of the handheld.
